Public Health Nutrition Team Leader of National Technical Assistance for Increased Utilization of High Health Impact Services Program, Bamako, MALI.

Fatimata Ouattara was the head of Nutrition Department at National Institute for Research in Public Health (INRSP) of Mali from October 1999 to December 2003.

Since December 2004, she is the Public Health Nutrition Team Leader of National Technical Assistance for a new Program financed by USAID in Mali called Increased Utilization of High Health Impact Services.

Fatimata Ouattara has a MSc. in Food Technology and Nutrition.

She has attended many post university trainings in food sciences and nutrition as:

  • “Information Technology in Nutrition Training” University of Uppsala (Sweden)/Egerton University (Kenya)2000;
  • “The Production and Use of Food Composition Data in Nutrition” University of Pretoria (South Africa)1999;
  • “Applied Nutrition and Food Sciences” (FIANA) ORSTOM/CIE/CNAM/Epicentre-MSF/ French Cooperation Dakar (Senegal), 1996-97;
  • “Human Nutrition and Food Sciences (FINSA) in Micronutrient Deficiencies” University of Cotonou(Benin) /Pays-Bas (Netherlands),1995.

She has more than 15 years experiences in the research of Applied Nutrition and Food Sciences in Public Health. She is involved in decision-making in nutrition programs and policies at the national level, provides Technical Assistance to the Health program for Nutrition for Mali. She has been involved in many activities in relation to Food and Nutrition Policies in the country.

At the national level, the main activities in which Fatimata Ouattara has actively participated and involved are :

  • Design, plan, implement, coordinate, and conduct various nutrition survey
  • Participation and support Vitamin A supplementation activities in the country
  • Elaboration of Food Composition Table and Data,
  • Training of Trainers in nutrition,
  • Design, plan, implement, and conduct survey Links between Agriculture production and Improvement of Infant Nutrition in Mali,
  • Elaboration of Operational Strategy for 2015 and Sustainable Food Security Programme towards in reducing poverty in Mali,
  • Developing the nutrition section of the National Food Security Strategy,
  • Improvement of Street Foods,
  • Evaluation of Nutrition training programme among secondary and high school and university,
  • Improvement of School Health,
  • Writing Mali Journal of Food and Nutrition,
  • Providing Technical Assistance to several NGO organizations both local and international in nutrition training.

Fatimata Ouattara is also involved in the training in nutrition of students from university and other training institutions in Mali. She is author/co-author of many scientific publications in food sciences and nutrition. She is an active member and the treasurer of Malian Nutritionist Network (REMANUT).

Internationally, she has participated at many conferences and workshops. These include the 17th International Congress of Nutrition (Vienna, August 2001), the Third and Fourth International Food Data Conferences (Roma, July 1999 and Bratislava, August 2001), the Fourth International Conference on Dietary Assessment Methods (Tucson, September 2000), the AFROFOODS Regional Meetings (Dakar, June 2000 and Pretoria June 2001).
